Hi 4given,

Are you saying that the Gog Magog War is Armageddon just under another name?

Sort of. Armageddon is the "final" battle. This is the actual battle God intervenes in. There are at least two seperate battles in Eze 38-39. One in Eze 38 and one in Eze 39. Only 1/6th of Gog's army remains for the final battle.

Eze 38:4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

Eze 39:2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:

Here's the deal with Ezekiel 38. These things that happen in Eze 38-39 are things that take place around the time of God's wrath. We have been discussing the "time' when Israel returns to the Lord. This does not happen until after Jesus sets foot in Jerusalem as shown in Zec 12. This timestamps the events that happen in Eze 39. In Eze 38 we have these timestamps.

Eze 38:16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

Number one it says that this shall occur in the latter days. Notice that God is santified in Gog by the utter defeat He hands Gog. When God defeats Gog the heathen shall know Him. Think about that for a moment. When will the heathen (nations) know God?

Eze 38:17 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?

Now this is very interesting and very telling. God asks Gog a question. Is he whom God has spoken of by His old time servants, the prophets of Israel? God says that He spoke of Gog by His prophets of old. Somewhere in the bible God speaks about Gog. It is not just prophet either it is plural prophets. Can you find where in the bible prophets talk about Gog? The closest description I can find to what Gog does is included in descriptions of "the day of the Lord" type passages such as Zec 12. There is the Gog 2 invasion after the millennium shown in Rev 20. But there is no real battle shown there and the description in Eze 38-39 make it clear this happens before the millennium.

Eze 38:18 And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face.

This is the beginning of another timestamp. "At the same time", when Gog invades Israel, the Lord's fury comes up in His face.

Eze 38:19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;

In the jealousy of His wrath He has spoken and in that day there will be a great shaking in Israel. The actual word "wrath" is used here. When we read about the severity of the earthquake we see it is a really really bad one; cataclysmic.

Eze 38:20 So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.

Literally every living creature upon earth, including every man, will shake at the presence of God. To be present God would have to be there. His very presence causes the worst earthquake I have ever heard of. Everything on earth shakes during this quake. The bible speaks of quakes like that in other places.

Rev 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
Rev 16:18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

Rev 16:20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

Rev 16 describes a very similar quake and also it talks about mountains like Eze 38. Every island fled away and the mountains were not found. In Eze 38 that mountains are thrown down and every wall falls to the ground. These events are part of God's wrath. That gives us the timing for Eze 38-39.

Eze 39:21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
Eze 39:22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.
Eze 39:23 And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.

Eze 39:29 Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

The heathen will know it was the Lord that defeated Gog. Israel will know that He is the Lord their God from that day and forward. God quits hiding His face from Israel and pours His spirit upon the house of Israel. This is the time Israel returns to God forever. This has to be near the end of the last 7 years. We also know that Armageddon is near the end of the last 7 years. The question is how many times does the Lord defeat the enemies of Israel personally?

I say it is only once from my studies of scripture. There is always a final outcome where God accepts Israel again. That is the common denominator in all the prophets. Either it happens numerous times and Israel returns to the Lord a multitude of times or they all speak of the same event. The similarities are close enough for me to believe that they indeed all do speak of the same battle. You may not agree but at least now I hope you can understand why I believe the Gog battle is the same as Armageddon. Namely they occur during the same timeframe so therefore are the same events from different perspectives. I will add some more prophets to this discussion as we continue. I still have Joel,Zechariah, Zephaniah, Amos, and Isaiah to talk about...lol.

Remember that the AC has 3 1/2 years to trample the holy city of Jerusalem. The conclusion of that 3 1/2 years is Armageddon. So Armageddon starts earlier when the AC defiles the temple. From the time the daily sacrifice is removed there will be 1260 days. After the AOD is the worst trib Israel has or will ever see. It all fits together nicely actually when we zoom out with our perspectives. Study all the scriptures I post and the chapters around them. The story will gradually become clearer for you.

Peace,
