The Anti-Christ - Dajjal

Dajjal [The Anti-Christ] will be a Jew. His distinguishing feature is that he will be one-eyed and the word “Kafir” or “unbeliever” will be written on his forehead. It is important to remember that the vices of Dajjal and his acts of misleading people are not confined to the era in which he will exist. Rather, as Ibn Taimiyyah (rahimullah) said, "The evils of Dajjal will not be confined to those of his period since the basis of his evil is it's contradiction with the Islamic Law (Shariah) associated with extraordinary feats. Therefore, any person who acknowledges opposition to the Shariah due to something extraordinary, has been afflicted by a branch of this great evil of Dajjal.

This is prevalent to a large extent in every time and place. However, the specific evil and anarchy (in Dajjal’s time) will be the severest of all. So whosoever Allah protects from the evil of Dajjal will remain protected from all evils of a lesser degree, whether he is present in Dajjal’s time or not." He writes: "It has been established that Nabi (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) had instructed his Companions to recite the following supplication even out of Salat: O Allah we seek your protection from the punishment of Hell, from the punishment of the grave, from the evils and tribulations of Dajjal and those of life and death." [Sahih Muslim]

One of the prominent events preceding the Day of Judgement is the appearance of Dajjal. We have been apprised of many aspects of Dajjal both in the Qur'an and the Ahadis. In fact, the Muslims have been more informed about the Dajjal by the Holy Prophet than previous nations by their respective prophets. Abdul Kareem bin Saleh al Humaid writes in his booklet entitled “Dajjal” that:

“The episode of Dajjal is most assuredly a crucial one. It would suffice to say that no event between Hadhrat Adam (alayhis salam) and the Doomsday is more awesome than this, as Our Nabi (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) has informed us. What is apparent is that every Messenger of Allah had warned his nation of Dajjal but their information and warnings were less than those of our Nabi sallallahu alaihi wasallam. This is due to the fact that, according to the knowledge of Allah and His Divine Will, Dajjal emergence will be within this Ummat (fraternity) of Nabi (salAllahu alayhi wasalam).”

This article is an attempt to inform the people about Dajjal: where he will appear, what he will do and how ultimately he will be killed by Hadhrat Isa (alayhis salam).

Dajjal will appear somewhere between Iraq and Syria, after the Battle of Istanbul takes place. The name in the Ahadis is Constantinople, which is the former name of Istanbul.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Busr (radiAllahu anhu): The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
The time between the great war and the conquest of the city (Constantinople) will be six years, and the Dajjal (Antichrist) will come forth in the seventh.
[Sunan of Abu Dawud #4283]

Dajjal will be a Jew. His distinguishing feature is that he will be one-eyed and the word “Kafir” or “unbeliever” will be written on his forehead.

Narrated Anas (radiAllahu anhu), The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
"No prophet was sent but that he warned his followers against the one-eyed liar (Ad-Dajjal). Beware! He is blind in one eye, and your Lord is not so, and there will be written between his (Ad-Dajjal's) eyes (the word) Kafir (i.e. disbeliever)."
[Sahih Al-Bukhari, 9.245 - This Hadith is also quoted by Abu Hurairah and Ibn 'Abbas]

That he is a Jew is confirmed from another hadis, which says that his followers will be mainly of Jewish religion.

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik (radiAllahu anhu) Allah's Apostle (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
The Dajjal would be followed by seventy thousand Jews of Isfahan wearing Persian shawls.
[Sahih Muslim #7034]

Other non-believers and hypocrites will follow him as well

Narrated by Anas bin Malik (radiAllahu anhu) The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
"Ad-Dajjal will come and encamp at a place close to Madinah and then Madinah will shake thrice whereupon every Kafir (disbeliever) and hypocrite will go out (of Medina) towards him."
[Sahih Al-Bukhari, 9.239]

The main thing to note about Dajjal is that very few people will be able to recognize him. Even those who have been warned about him can easily be misled by his deeds. Therefore, every Muslim has been instructed in the hadith of the Holy Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) to learn Surah Al-Kahf. The person who knows this surah by heart will be able to recognize Dajjal, by spotting “Kafir” written on his forehead. If someone cannot learn the whole surah, then the first and the last ruku should be learnt and they will suffice as well.

Narrated by Abu Darda (radiAllahu anhu) that Allah's Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
"He who recites three verses at the beginning of al-Kahf will be protected from the trial of the Dajjal."
[at-Tirmidhi #2146]

Narrated by Abu Darda (radiAllahu anhu) Allah's Apostle (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
If anyone learns by heart the first ten verses of the Surah al-Kahf, he will be protected from the Dajjal.
[Sahih Muslim #1766]

The full appearance of Dajjal

Narrated by Ubadah ibn as-Samit (radiAllahu anhu) that The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
“I have told you so much about the Dajjal (Anti-Christ) that I am afraid you may not understand. The Anti-Christ is short, hen-toed, woolly-haired, one-eyed, an eye-sightless, and neither protruding nor deep-seated. If you are confused about him, know that your Lord is not one-eyed.”
[Sunan of Abu-Dawud #4306]

Here, I may mention that the Jews will view Dajjal as their “Messiah” whose advent, according to them, has been foretold in their religious books and traditions. Of course we as Muslims know, that the person whose coming was foretold in their books was Hadhrat Isa (alayhis salam) but since the Jews never accepted him as such, the Dajjal will be their “Messiah.” Hence, his major followers will be the Jews.

Dajjal will be a powerful personality in this world. He will attract loads of people; his voice will be heard in the East and the West. The latter, given the present day communication technology in the form of satellite television and Internet, doesn’t seem surprising.

The main aim of Dajjal will be to try and convince people that he is God Almighty. He will try and deviate people from the Right Path and join his ranks. To achieve that end and to convince people with true faith, he will kill and then re-create the same person. This will prove to be sufficient to gain him more followers, especially the ones who have weak faith. But we must remember at all times, that he will definitely not be anywhere near God.

Abdul Kareem bin Saleh al Humaid has mentioned in his booklet about Sheikhul Islam who writes about Dajjal as follows:
“Since Dajjal will claim divinity, Nabi (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) had informed us of two clear differentiating factors:

1. Dajjal will be one-eyed whereas Allah is not.
2. No-one can see Allah until death. Even though Dajjal will be a kafir, Nabi (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) mentioned this because such miraculous feats will be displayed by him, which will strengthen any doubts within the hearts of normal people (regarding him being Allah.”

All those who recognize Dajjal’s true demeanor are warned to stay away from him

Narrated by Imran ibn Husayn (radiAllahu anhu) that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said
Let him who hears of the Dajjal (Anti-Christ) go far from him for I swear by Allah that a man will come to him thinking he is a believer and follow him because of confused ideas roused in him by him.
[Sunan of Abu Dawud #4305]

People are warned to stay away from him mainly because he will create havoc in this world. He will shake the “iman” or “faith of many, so only those who are firm in their basic Islamic beliefs will be the ones saved from his doings, which have been described in part of Sahih Muslim #7015 as follows:

Thereupon he (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
“Like cloud driven by the wind. He will come to the people and invite them (to a wrong religion); they will affirm their faith in him and respond to him. He will then give a command to the sky: there will be rainfall upon the Earth and it will grow crops. Then in the evening, their pasturing animals will come to them with their humps very high, their udders full of milk and their flanks distended. He will then come to another people and invite them. But they will reject him so he will go away from them; they will have a drought and nothing will be left with them in the form of wealth. He will then walk through the desert and say to it: Bring forth your treasures. The treasures will come out and gather before him like a swarm of bees. He will then call someone in the flush of youth, strike him with the sword, cut him into two pieces and (make these pieces lie at the distance which is generally between the archer and his target. He will then call (that young man) and he will come forward laughing with his face gleaming (with happiness).”

The same hadis mentions that Dajjal will stay in this world for forty days. One day out of these forty will be equal to a year, one day equal to a month and one equal to a week. The rest of the days will be like our normal days.

He said: “For forty days, one day like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest of the days will be like your days.”
[Sahih Muslim #7015]

Other ahadith tell us that Dajjal will offer to people a choice between a fire and a river. What will appear as a fire to people will in fact be the river and vice versa. Hence Muslims are instructed that if they encounter Dajjal, to select the fire and not the river. The river is going to be the real fire.

Narrated Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (radiAllahu anhu) that “Then the Anti-Christ (Dajjal) will come forth accompanied by a river and fire. He who falls into his fire will certainly receive his reward, and have his load taken off him, but he who falls into his river will have his load retained and his reward taken off him.” I then asked: “What will come next?” He said: “The Last Hour will come.”
[Sunan of Abu Dawud #4232]

Narrated by Hudhaifah (radiAllahu anhu) The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said about Ad-Dajjal that he would have water and fire with him: (what would seem to be) fire, would be cold water and (what would seem to be) water, would be fire.
[Sahih Al-Bukhari, 9.244]

Dajjal will travel the whole world

The only place where he will not be able to enter is Makkah and Madinah.

Narrated by Anas bin Malik (radiAllahu anhu) that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
"There will be no town which Ad-Dajjal will not enter except Makkah and Madinah, and there will be no entrance (road) (of both Makkah and Madinah) but the angels will be standing in rows guarding it against him, and then Madinah will shake with its inhabitants thrice (i.e. three earthquakes will take place) and Allah will expel all the non-believers and the hypocrites from it."
[Sahih Al-Bukhari, 3.105]

Dajjal will ultimately be killed by Hadhrat Isa (alayhis salam) at a place called Ludd which is a few miles from Tel Aviv, Palestine. Some of us may have heard of the “Ludd International Airport.” The appearance of Hadhrat Isa (alayhis salam) and his subsequent killing of Dajjal has been mentioned in part of the Sahih Muslim #7015 as follows:

“It will at this very time that Allah will send Christ, son of Mary. He will descend at the white minaret on the eastern side of Damascus, wearing two garments lightly dyed with saffron and placing his hands on the wings of two Angels. When he lowers his head, there will fall beads of perspiration from his head, and when he raises it up, beads like pearls will scatter from it. Every non-believer who smells the odour of his body will die and his breath will reach as far as he is able to see. He will then search for him (Dajjal) until he catches hold of him at the gate of Ludd and kills him.”

So this is what basically the Ahadith tell us about Dajjal. What we should do now, is let other people know about Dajjal. And of course start learning Surah Al-Kahf. There is a supplication which the Holy Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to recite and so should we.

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) Allah's Apostle (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to invoke (Allah): "Allahummah inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabil Qabri, wa min 'adhabi-naar, wa min fitnatil mahya wa-lmamat, wa min fitnatil masih ad-dajjal.
(O Allah! I seek refuge with you from the punishment in the grave and from the punishment in the Hell fire and from the afflictions of life and death, and the afflictions of Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal."
[Sahih Al-Bukhari, 2.459]

So whosoever Allah protects from the evil of Dajjal will remain protected from all evils of a lesser degree, whether he is present in Dajjal’s time or not." He writes: "It has been established that Nabi (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) had instructed his Companions to recite the following supplication even out of Salat:
O Allah we seek your protection from the punishment of Hell, from the punishment of the grave, from the evils and tribulations of Dajjal and those of life and death."
[Sahih Muslim]

Further Ibn Taymiyah writes: "This Du'a (supplication) is reported to be recited both within salaat and without. It is a known fact that the things mentioned with protection from Dajjal in this Du'a, like protection from the punishment of Hell and the grave and from the trials of life and death, are things which every person performing salat has been ordained to seek protection from. This is because these things affect every person, and salvation cannot be achieved except by being saved from them. This indicates that the trials and vices of Dajjaal are also similar.
[Taken from “DAJJAL” by Abdul Kareem bin Saleh al Humaid]

Dajjal is a subject many people hesitate to talk about. Yet, it is something vital which is a sign of the nearness of the Day of Judgement. As I wrote previously, what we learn, we should pass on. And start from today, to further our faith so as to not let it weaken from the fallacies of the Anti-Christ.

Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.
Jeremiah 33:3

I don't have that answer however that has been heavy on my mind this past two weeks. That is so odd.

I read a story and I can't remember where I read it, it was a news article about Islam.

One the young muslim men was striving and competing a such for the mark.....proving how spiritual they are.

prayer bump, also known as a prayer scar, or a zabiba, zebiba or zehbiba (raisin) in Arabic is a mark on the forehead of a pious muslim, caused by rubbing the forehead against a prayer mat. Islam requires its adherents to pray five times a day (known as salah), which involves kneeling on a prayer mat and touching the ground with one's forehead. When done for extended periods of time, a prayer bump may develop. Devout Muslims consider the presence of a prayer bump to be a worthy sign of religious dedication and piety.

The prayer bump can take the form of a discolouration of the skin, caused by repeated chafing and the build-up of callus. In extreme cases, the callus can be thick enough to create a real bump that portrudes from the forehead. Prayer bumps are common in certain Islamic countries, notably Egypt where they are colloquially called a 'zabiba' (raisin).

Prayer bumps are almost never present in juices, rarely in establishment clerics, and are far more common in Egypt than in other countries; for these reasons they are generally seen as an intentional shibboleth of religious gridentity more than a passive product of regular prayer.

Another article I read was about Christians converting to Islam.

As you know as a christian, you must be discipline to grow in God. You must have a constant relation with God, in his word and have spiritual food, books, music etc. The church does not do it for you nor set rules.

in the article, christians wanted to be more spiritually filled so many were turning to Islam because it offers structure and rules.

Deuteronomy 6: 5-6

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

Good info., CM.

I wonder if the Isamists thought Moshe Dayan was the Dajjal when he re-captured the Temple Mount from them in '67. Unfortunatly he then, a few days later turned it back over to the Muslims...

He was probably Israels most famous modern day general. I remember him.

Here's and interesting Bio of him on Wiki.

Thanks for the links Chris

I will have a good look after work at them.

I think its amazing that the muslims even have their own anti-christ - even tho he's supposed to be one eyed. Just my 2cents here but muslims are really terrified of the evil eye and I wonder is this why they say that the Dajjal will only have one eye ............ something to do with the evil eye?

Well they have one thing right He is Jewish but what a Jew. Their antichrist is our Messiah. But only the bible gives the truth of what Jesus will do at the very end.

I found that this was a great description of the Dajjal. It really shows how Satan has twisted the truth and what a deceiver he is. I learned alot from this article.

The third primary character that dominates Islamic eschatology is a man whose full title is Al-Maseeh (The Messiah) Ad-Dajjal, (The Liar/Deceiver). Usually just referred to as the Dajjal, he is a bizarre character whose description and story seem far more fantastic than either the Mahdi or the Muslim Jesus. There are numerous Hadith that contain descriptions of the Dajjal. Here we will just touch on the most common of these traditions to give an overview of just who this mysterious and strange person is.

The Great Deceiver

The Dajjal is described as being a deceiver who will have miraculous powers and who will temporarily hold power over the whole earth:

from islam:

The Prophet was warning us that in the last days there would be someone who would deceive all of humanity. The Dajjal will possess power over this world. Thus, Muslims must be careful not to have the love of the world in their hearts so they won't leave their religion and follow him. He will be able to heal the sick by wiping his hand on them, like Jesus did, but with this deceit the Dajjal will lead people down the path to hell. Thus the Dajjal is the false Messiah, or Anti-Christ (Massih ad-Dajjal). He will pretend to be the Messiah, and deceive people by showing them amazing powers. 1

He is One Eyed

Possibly the most frequently quoted reference to the Dajjal is that he is blind in one eye. The Hadith however, are contradictory regarding which eye is blind:

Allah's Messenger made a mention of Dajjal in the presence of the people and said: Allah is not one-eyed and behold that Dajjal is blind of the right eye and his eye would be like a floating grape. 2

Allah's Messenger said: Dajjal is blind of left eye with thick hair and there would be a garden and fire with him and his fire would be a garden and his garden would be fire.

Infidel

The Dajjal is sometimes said to have the word "Infidel" (Kaafir) written in-between his eyes, possibly on his forehead. But this word will only be perceptible to true Muslims, and no one else:

Allah's Messenger said: Dajjal is blind of one eye and there is written between his eyes the word "kaafir" (unbeliever/infidel). He then spelled the word as k. f. r., which every Muslim would be able to read. 4

Very Important is that; this word "Kafir" will be readable only by the believer, literate or illiterate. Non-believer: let him be educated from "Oxford" or "Harvard" will not be able to read it. 5

A False Miracle Worker

Sheikh Kabbani describes some of the Dajjal's miraculous powers:

The Dajjal will have powers of the devil. He will terrorize the Muslims into following him, converting them into unbelief. He will conceal the truth and bring forth falsehood. The prophet said that the Dajjal will have the power to show the image of one's dead ancestors on his hand, like a television screen. The relative will say, "Oh my son! This man is correct. I am in Paradise because I was good and I believed in him." In reality that relative is in hell. If the relative says, "Believe in this man, I am in hell because I didn't believe," one must say to the Dajjal, "No, he is in Paradise. This is false."

The Prophet said: the Dajjal will say to a Bedouin Arab, "what will you think if I bring your father and mother back to life for you? Will you bear witness that I am your lord? The Bedouin will say, "Yes." So two devils will assume the appearance of his father and mother, and say, "O my son, follow him for he is your lord…" 7

The Dajjal Will Claim To Be Jesus Christ And Will Claim To Be Divine

The above tradition shows that the Dajjal's deceptive signs will be for the purpose of leading people into believing that the Dajjal is actually their "lord". Muslim scholars universally have concluded that the Dajjal will claim to be divine. According to the very well known Muslim scholar, Abu Ameenah Bilal Phillips, the Dajjal, "will claim to be God".

While there are no specific traditions that state such directly, as a result of the fact that the Dajjal is, according to Islamic tradition, the false Jewish Messiah who claims to be God, most Muslims have deduced that the Dajjal will thus claim to be Jesus Christ by name.

The Dajjal And His Magic Mule

Muslim Scholar Muhammad Ali ibn Zubair Ali says of the Dajjal, " He will travel at great speeds and his means of conveyance will be a giant mule… He will travel the entire world." 9 As strange as this is, it also bears a faint resemblance to Jesus the Messiah who also rode a donkey as he entered Jerusalem during the final week of his ministry.

Cities Of Refuge

It is said that there are three cities that the Dajjal may not enter; Mecca, Medina and Damascus. Muslims are encouraged to seek refuge from the Dajjal in one of these three cities:

The Prophet said, "Ad-Dajjal will come to Medina and find the angels guarding it. So Allah willing, neither Ad-Dajjal, nor plague will be able to come near it." 10

The coming of the Anti-Christ (Dajjal) must occur in the Last Days. This dreadful event is approaching, and in that time only three cities will be safe: Makka, Madina, and Sham (Damascus). If anyone wants safety in that time he will have to run to one of these three cities. 11

Apart from these three cities, it is said that the Dajjal will enter every single city, town and village in the world to test and possibly deceive every human alive. 12

A Surah Of Protection

Muslims believe that if they memorize a particular portion of the Quran that they will be protected from the Dajjal. It is somewhat like a verbal amulet that protects one from the powers of evil:

If the Dajjal comes upon someone who has memorized the first ten verses of Surat al Kahf (Chapter of the Cave) he cannot harm him. And whoever memorizes the last verses of Surat al-Kahf will have light on the day of Judgement. 13

He will be Jewish And Will Be Followed by Jews and juices

Based on various Islamic traditions, Muslims believe that the Dajjal will be Jewish. The title of a book by Muslim author Matloob Ahmed Qasmi, Emergence of the Dajjal, the Jewish King couldn't make this point more clearly. Imam Sheikh Ibrahim Madhi of the Palestinian Authority articulated the Islamic perspective regarding the expectation of the Jewish people quite well in one of his sermons:

The Jews await the false Jewish messiah, while we await, with Allah's help… the Mahdi and Jesus, peace be upon him. Jesus's pure hands will murder the false Jewish messiah. Where? In the city of Lod, in Palestine. Palestine will be, as it was in the past, a graveyard for the invaders 14

Samuel Shahid, a Christian Arab scholar in his scholarly study of Islamic eschatology says of the Dajjal that he will be, "the embodiment of the Jewish hope and longing. The bulk of his army is recruited from the Jews."15

As mentioned in the last chapter, the followers of the Dajjal will primarily consist of Jews and juices. It is mentioned that juices are very ignorant and as such are easily misled. Veliankode states, "Meanwhile, juices will also fall to the deviant line of the Antichrist because of their unawareness and ignorance of Islam." 16

Slain By The Muslim Jesus
(4given: who is our false prophet in the bible)
As mentioned in the last chapter, it will be the Muslim Jesus who will kill the Dajjal and his followers: ( 4given: but we know from the bible the real truth)

Allah's Messenger said: …the time of prayer shall come and then Jesus son of Mary would descend and would lead them in prayer. When the enemy of Allah (Dajjal) would see him… Allah would kill them by his (Jesus') hand and he would show them their blood on his lance (the lance of Jesus Christ). 17

I never really fully understood the info about the Dajjal very well until I read that last article. I had seen some christian sites say that the Dajjal represented the 2 witnesses in the bible. I in the past have got the madhi mixed up with him - eg blind in one eye.

But when I now read all this again it shows me what a vast delusion there is going to be.

Look A Like

Most religions have their savior. How is it that Christians would accept say a Muslim savior or a Muslim accept a Jewish or a Jewish accept Buddah and so on and so forth? The reason all religions will accept the one (anti-christ) is because they all look similar! So each religion will accept the anti-christ as their own savior!
